Tainted swim
This series combines black and white, color photography providing expressionist relationships between internal and external perceptions.
“Every life is born pure, and then it will be dirty and dirty, in the hands of others or sometimes by ourself .
I wonder why people have to bathe and shower so much?
Sometimes I want to be like fish swimming in a water tank to believe that my life will not be tainted.”
The color pictures have been done at the lake of Tuyệt Tình Cốc.
“Many people visit Tuyệt Tình Cốc (Hải Phòng) to ‘check-in’ and take photos because of its blue water, but no one seems to care about the stories behind that peculiar color. This water is the consequence of years-long rock exploitation and over-use of dynamite. Here, my art-making process is a circle of destruction and transformation. I took landscape photos of the lake, and submerged the photographs to its own toxic water. In the end, the image is destroyed, leaving indelible abstract marks behind.”
