Built in 1895, this residence was previously named Hai Kee Chan, or Sea Remembrance Store by its owner, a wealthy self-made man Chung Keng Kwee. It combined East and West architecture in the Straits Eclectic style, a mixture of decorative façade of Chinese and European ornaments.
This house has been converted into a Museum and contains thousands of authentic Peranakan antiques, from his later owner, architect and native Peranakan Peter Soon.
This photo displays the wall of one the two bedrooms furnished in a more traditional Peranakan fashion.
Through the window, the Chung Ancestral Temple can be seen.
